I think the entire DLC and game came out to around $8. I bought this on sale for $1-3 dollars, during alien week or something silly. I assume that Steam does not adjust delay lag due to monitor response time, and game companies do not have veteran devs to fix this common issue, which they need to do. BUT if you have a gaming monitor with less than 1ms response time, MAYBE this game could work near to what it was supposed to play at.

QTE worked fine when the game console designers remembered to adjust for screen delay on TVs for console play, but not fixing it for PC and faster monitors than TV make this just as bad if not worse. These skill checks are like the old QTE which NOBODY LIKED and game companies stopped forcing QTE upon us due to player feedback over 10 years ago. Otherwise the skill checks go right past you and explode before you were given any chance to hit said skill checks. 8.5/10Īlien Isolation REQUIRES a gaming monitor with less than 1ms screen delay. They do it so much that the last couple of times I rolled my eyes thinking "get on with it already".Īll in all, great game with a few gameplay glitches.
There are a few parts where the game could have confortable ended but the developers thought it would be a good idea to overdo the "you almost had it but something happened and now you have to try and do it some other way". The last few missions of the game feel like an overextension that don't really add up anything and dilute the suspense the game had been building. A couple of backtracking bits are annoying. It is sad that for an Alien game, there are other things that create more suspense than the Alien itself. It is a lot more satysfying and builds up more tension to simply walk places and, when the Alien is near, use the environment (chairs, tables, debris) to move around its field of view. Even more frustrating to hide unendlessly. Especially when encountering the Alien it becomes a frustrating experience to inch yourself around the environments. The developers themselves push for a slow, crawl and hide gameplay (the overabundance of lockers where to hide and the actual written hints about moving slowly are prove of that), but the game is not enjoyable or efficient that way. You get small splashes of information that advance the story. The story of the fate of the Anisidora embeded in the game is great, not only the gameplay bit, but also all the recordings and the logs about what happened to it. It keeps you in tension and will make you watch your back all the way through. The art is amazing, there are parts that mesmerize you (the outer space parts are aesthetically great). You will come to realize the dangers that inhabit it at an excellent pace. The game builds up the atmosphere brilliantly for the first few hours, You arrive at the station alone and confused.
